> Pray Tell Barbara, EXACTLY WHAT is Ginko Bilboa??? > I was certain that is the name of the tree my neighbor has in her front> yard!! To the group, If you'll allow me a word, Ginkgo biloba is indeed a tree, imported from China and now used in many a US and European yard. Its leaves are used widely in Europe, where a standardized preparation of the concentrate is sold both OTC and in prescriptions. There is a fair body of research that shows it to improve the circulation of blood to the brain. It reportedly has shown effectiveness in older patients whose circulation has decreased, and who report improvement in short-term memory, depression, and other conditions. A note of caution: those using anticoagulants should be aware that ginkgo biloba causes blood to clot more quickly. Also, taken in large doses, some people have reported side effects such as nausea, jitteriness, etc. I have some references if anyone cares to do further research.
