I wrote the junior Senator from Oregon, Ron Wyden requesting that he join Mark Hatfield and sign on as a cosponsor to the Udall bill. He wrote me back as follows: "Dear Mr. Moreland: Thank you for your personal letter about the Udall bill, S. 684, that would increase funding for Parkinson's research. I understand the suffering caused by this horrible disease. Parkinson's, I know, is a horribly disabling disease that affects many Americans. I am hopeful that soon a cure will be found. With this said, I believe Congress should not micro-manage the way the National Institutes of Health (NIH) spends its money. . . . Rest assured, I support a strong Parkinson's research program at NIH." In other words he does not intend to cosponsor the Udall bill. I was very disappointed Obviously he has not read the bill or talked to the other Senator from Oregon. I intend to write him again with as much force as I can put in a letter. I am asking as many people as will to inundate Senator Wyden with mail concerning the benefits of the Udall bill. David L. Moreland
