June 16, 1996 Hello, For about a year, my father-in law and I have been enjoying the excellent information everyone has provided. But now he has a question... Have any of you had a drug reaction similar to that which I now describe: I was diagnosed about eight years ago with PD, and have been on Sinemet CR with good results. I have also been taking Baclofen (10 mg x 3) and Permax (0.75 mg x 3), Prozac (40 mg), and Cardizen CD (180 mg x 1). Recently, my doctor substituted Wellbutrin (l00 mg x 2) for the Prozac, and Amantadine (100 x 2) was added to the Permax to help prevent fatigue. Since these change were made, I had been feeling much better. However, about a week ago, I suddenly developed the following symptoms: swelling of the feet, ankles and calves on both legs; ringing in both ears with hearing impairment; and slight focus difficulties with my eyes. I immediately discontinued the Amantadine (six days ago) and stopped the Wellbutrin the next day. I noticed no improvement. My internist, after three more days, discontinued the Cardizen. I had blood work done and kidney and liver functions appear normal. Two EKGs revealed only a somewhat slow heartbeat, but blood pressure was normal. I have had no racing heart, chest pains or any of the usual heart attack signs. I am about to go for an ecocardiogram as an extra precaution, but my edema is not improved and I still have some auditory problems, although less so. I am now taking only my Sinemet and my Permax and cannot understand why my problems have not gone away. I would be grateful for any insight. You can e-mail me, John, directly at [log in to unmask] and I will share with my father in law.
