Thanks to Lynn Walker for the information on the current NIH Reauthorization Bill and on Sen. Frist. The last NIH Reauthorization Bill was signed into law on June 10, 1993 (p.L. 103-43). It included earmarked funds for AIDS research ($100 million discretionary research funds for unfunded or underfunded projects), breast cancer research ($325 million), other reproductive cancers ($75 million), prostate cancer research ( $72 million), and authorized $40 million in fiscal 1994 and unspecified funds through fiscal 1996 for research on osteoporosis, Paget's disease and related bone disorders. (The above information in from the 1993 Congressional Quarterly Almanac.) Sen. Kassebaum co-sponsored this bill (S.1) on 2/2/93. Do most people think that tacking the Udall Bill onto the NIH Reathorization is the best chance we have of getting it passed. Should we be discussing this when we speak to the Senators and Representatives? Linda Herman [log in to unmask]
