Its good to get away but its really good to come home. A summary of events before vacation, during and now (7 WEEKS ELAPSED TIME AFTER PALLIDOTOMY) Before vacation: A lot of freezing, sleeping and painful legs A lot of toe throbbing and edema A lot of dozing off almost felt drugged During vacation on Costa del Sol, Spain: for the first four days even being away from home in a different location did not help, ALL the above symptoms still going strong Went to a local RX to find a lab to do a blood test for the Clozoril No problem Went back to RX to ask about progressively worse edema. REcommended an internest in Malaga. Drove 50 miles found him about 75 years old with only the most minimum office equipment He spoke no english Chuck's spanish 101 did the trick We reviewed my current condition and explained about the PD and Pallidotomy op He did a complete test including checking pressure between heart and ankles OK He did a FLORISCOPE not xray of my chest He did a E N T exam spending more time on my eyes His conclusion based on the exam: Edema was not a circulatory problem but related to PD and current meds He recommended to continue my meds plus A) added a strong water pill SEGURIL 40mg w/Potassium every day for one month B) perscribed a shot of NERVOBION 5,000 = to 3CC every other day of a combo Vitamin B1, B6, B12 for one month C) perscribed a alternative daily shot of SOMAZINA 500mg for stimulation of the ceberal nervous system for one month D) perscribed a 3 X day dose of BRAINAL 30mg to increase the blood flow for one month Chuck and I decided to do ONLY A and B and to leave C/D for consult with my neuro. RESULTS OF NEW THERAPY 48 HOURS after starting the Vitamin B and water pill regemin a miraculous change began and each day my symptoms got less and less. After five days of water pills and Vit. shots, I was a new person!!! 75% less tingling, aching, painful, throbbing feet/legs. Freezing was 75% gone. Edema was less and less each day. I was turning over in bed alone, sleeping through almost the whole nite.... put the wheelchair in storage and was a new person. Climbed hilly small town streets, was able to cross the beach and went swimming in the ocean ALONE (first time in 12 years) started my day at 0600 with my regular meds..and waited almost till 0900 for everything to kick in...then ended our day about midnight with my last meds WITHOUT being dozy or feeling overdrugged. Chuck couldnt believe it but noticed each minute difference in my appearance and actions. He documented it every six hours and will write a report to present to my nuero on Monday. We have also requested a personal consult to discuss the other two items C & D which Im not taking but purchased just in case he says "yes" I guess the old time docs have something special inside them since they cant rely on new modern equipment etc. After vacation and back home I want to personally thank all of you, expecially ALAN B for your public and private messages of help and comfort. You and all the list have been my caregivers. Although it takes me a few hours to get going in the morning until my meds kick in, and I still have 25% of my symptoms, I feel wonderful about my new found freedoms. I have to take this new therapy for one month and I dont know what will be afterwards, and I expect and have had a few bad hours or even days, but like us all we have to take one day at a time. After discussing this with my neuro, I will again make a report of his impressions. Joyce
