My mother has Parkinson's and has trouble swallowing. She chokes regularly
on her food. A "consultant" at her nursing home has had her on ground meat,
and now they are suggesting that everything be pureed. She's not looking
forward to it.

I had heard that there is a medication which can help relax the throat
muscles so she won't choke so readily.

Is anyone familiar with a medication of this type? If I knew a name, I could
look the drug up.

This is my first day on your list service, so if you have already discussed
this, I missed it and I hope you'll forgive the intrusion.

Mom and I will appreciate any suggestions you can offer.
