Wendy Henry--you asked why your usually determined mother would not "want to try", and I wondered if she is depressed? That could be one explanation-- perhaps she feels that she's "doomed" by PD and there's no use fighting it? It's a hard spot for you to be in, but maybe you can gradually help her tell you how she feels (angry, hopeless, frustrated,suicidal, whatever) and that will give you a clue as to how you can best help her.
