Dear Mr. Conovaloff,
Thanks for excellent information--I'm storing it for future reference,
as I believe other RDs besides myself can benefit.

Re infections, should urinary tract infections be a problem, let me
suggest a glass of cranberry juice daily. It's better as a preventive
measure, but also good if an infection occurs. A substance in the
cranberry seems to inhibit the bacteria from adhering to the wall of the
urinary tract. If choking is a problem, any liquid can be thickened with
"Thick-it" -- a product that thickens liquids to prevent choking and/or
aspirating liquids.

But for PWP, there's an additional benefit to cranberry juice. The
cranberry is so sour that sugar must be added to make it palatable. This
results in a high-carbohydrate product, which, taken with meals,
increases the carbohydrate-to-protein ratio. A high ratio may help
scavenge aminos from the bloodstream, and leave the Sinemet with a
better chance of making it across the blood-brain barrier. If cranberry
juice can substitute for an antibiotic, that's one less medication
needed.

I always appreciate your posts, Mr. Conovaloff, as well as your
signature!

Best regards,
