<SNIP> >>Would a Digest take the same amount of time to DL as umpteen individual >>messages ? <SNIP> > Marjorie Moorefield made 2 very valid comments in reply to the above message. 1) Excess Server traffic on messages sent to an inoperative server elsewhere and 2) Inability to reply to each message as we do now The original question about downloading the messages and the time consumed - - - individual messages vs. Digest The time would not be considerably faster but some small amount of time would be saved. The individual message process is essentially as follows once the retrieve mail has been issued: 1) Get message from Server 2) Transfer to Recepient 3) When transfer complete, delete message on server (assuming you have the delete message activated) 4) Repeat message down load until message queue exhausted. 5) Close message transfer request from Recepient. With the Digest download, only item 4 above would be abolished. Of course there would be no need for multiples of item 1 from the server since all messages would be in a single transmission package called the Digest. One other item might be presented here. If you chose to reply to a single message contained in a DIGEST group by using the reply key 'AND' you did not delete all the other messages contained in the Digest, you would then transmit the entire Digest with your reply......big time traffic problem for all concerned......Jack *********************************************************** E.
