Yesterday a woman in our support group called me and asked me to tell the
list about her experience, and see if others had had similar ones. Here is
her story.
In 1992 Marie was having a problem with falling, slurred speech, and
numbness on one side of her body. A neuro (notPD specialist) dxd her as having
PD. She has been taking sinemet, and later Prozac since then. She also has
diabetes and heart problems, and has suffered much pain all down her back.
About 3 wks. ago she came down with pneumonia, was hospitalized and taken off
of sinemet and prozac. She is now home, feels fine, has NO pain, and has not
been back on the meds! She believes she never had PD at all--perhaps a
slight stroke,to account for the falling and numbness. She had one appt. last
year with a PD specialist in Cincinnati, who apparently didn't change her
diagnosis. I don't know what kind of exam he gave her. Naturally, she's happy
if she_doesn't_have PD (who wouldn't be?)but curious about it all--this seems
to relate to the question of how taking sinemet would affect someone if they
weren't a PWP. She's expecially impressed that the constant pain is gone.
Any comments, ideas to pass along to her would be appreciated.
