Hi! I'm new to the list. My grandma is 82 years old and has had
Parkinson's Disease for at lest 12 years (I remember she had it when I lived
with her as a teen). Anyway, she has only 1/4 of her stomach because her
arthritis medications gave her such bad ulcers. "Munner" (that's what I
call her) used to be 6'4" and 150 pounds (that was at age 65 when she still
worked full time). Now, she is 5'0" and 85 pounds. Mom says she freezes up
now at about 3 in the afternoon. It just keeps getting earlier and
earlier. Since I lived with her as a teen, she's more like a mom than a
grand-mom, so this is all very distressing to me.

The reason I'm writing is because Munner can't tolerate the usual
medications for Parkinson's because of her other medical problems. She's
very depressed and tells me all the time that she has no quality of life.
And, frankly, when an illness such as this takes away their ability to live
independently they really don't have much quality of life. (Sorry, I keep
getting sidetracked.) Anyway, since she can't take the good meds, I'm
wondering about pallidotomy(sp?). But I don't know anything about it. Can
someone please enlighten me?

Thanks for your help.
