A few days ago there were some messages about problems with bicycling. May I suggest trying a tandem? I find I can tandem ride (in "stoker,' i.e. rear, position) at times when I can barely walk. Riding an ordinary bike was becoming difficult because I didn't trust myself to steer straight with one hand (the other being used to change gears or brake); I also found that steering when pedalling slowly up hill added to the stress and tension. On a tandem the "captain" takes the stress--it needs a bit of practice to steer a tandem, but not much. I was surprised to find that even in Canada you can buy tandems quite cheaply. We have owned a "top of the line" model, but recently bought a low-priced mountain tandem and have been very happy with it. I can pass on an e-mail address for a specialist tandem magazine (with which I have no financial connections). And my husband and I would be happy to give test-rides to anyone in our area (about an hour's drive--by automobile!--north-west of Toronto). Frances (51, pd 7) [log in to unmask]
