Hi, I'm a newbie on the list--so excuse my possible lack of netiquette. I subscribed yesterday to see if I can find out some information for my mother who is five years into PD but with some new symptons that may or may not be related to PD medications. She is taking Sinemet and Eldepryl and for a short time recently Permax. About ten months ago she developed gastritis (as diagnosed by an upper gi). Within the last two months it has become quite severe-- pain, gas, nausea--and she has lost 30 pounds. She just had another upper gi (along with many other tests) and apparently all they have found wrong with her is the gastritis. And I guess from what I have read that gastritis could cause all of those symptons. The pain is the worst a short time after take her medicines (for PD) and thru the mid- dle of the day she is in misery. She can eat when she gets up and later in the day. Here are my questions: do PD medicines sometimes cause or aggravate stomach problems? Is permax a particular problem? If so, what can be done about it? She has seen a number of doctors and they don't seem to be in a much of a hurry to help. I think they just started her on prilosec. Do doctors also typically treat gastritis with antibiotics (like ulcers)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bryce Jones
