Hello everyone - I have a huge favour to ask. Let me explain the
scenario so I can frame the questions for information I need. We at the
Academic Writing Centre are in the position of having to start a pilot
project
to support the academic program of students in the university who do not
speak English as their first language. I hesitate to use the term ESL
basically for political reasons but essentially the support would be in
the language area and very closely resemble the support offered by an ESL
program. My questions are below:

1. Could you briefly describe the model for your program for "other
language" students if you have one at your university.

2. Do you charge a user fee for your service? If so, how much and how
was it determined?

3. Do you make a distinction between visa students and "landed" students
in either service or fees? If so, what is the rationale for the difference?

4. What kinds of evaluative or assessment tools do you use to measure
the viability of your program? (I'm interested in very concrete,
measurable kind of data - the kind that number crunchers can't ignore.)

5. If there are other factors that I (in my ignorance) should be
concerned about, please let me know.

6. Any pedagogical issues would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance. Barb
