My 87 year old grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease this last
week. This after going to the emergency room in so much pain he could not
move. He has had pain all over for many years, but it increasingly worsens.
The doctors at the hospital (he had never met them before) diagnosed the
parkinson's within a day. He had had tremors and the shuffling gait and the
Constipation that I have read all about on the Parkinson's Web and many
other internet sites. He also suffered severe jaw pain. Has anyonw else
had that? The doctor said that some of the medicine he had been taking
before for the pain may have actually hindered him. He is now on sinemet
for parkinson's, naproxen for pain, cytotec for the stomach problems that go
along with naproxen, and valium to help him sleep at night. Along with some
heart medication (he had a heart attack 9 years ago).

We brought him home after a week and a half in the hospital. Actually, the
doctor sent him home, saying he would be just fine. There is no one in ouir
household that is home 24 hours a day and it has been very hard, especially
on my mother-in-law, who's his daughter.

While we want to help him, he requires much care that I'm not sure we can
provide. His wife is already in a care home, and the expense is tremendous
to put another one of our family members in a care home. His mind is fine,
its just that his body doesn't work so well. The doctor said that part of
the pain he's having might be pseudo and related to depression that often
goes hand-in-hand with parkinson's.

I have enjoyed reading and printing the postings for my family to read,
also. I hope to hear from others.

Thank you.
