Hi, Rich. My husband applied for SS disability after he was forced to give
up his work in 1986. Even then, they gave him a hard time and denied it.
Which will probably happen to you. But keep appealing and pursuing it! You
will have to have letters from doctors, etc. What we ended up doing was
hiring a lawyer who specializes in this sort of thing. FINALLY, Dave got it.
The disability payments were retroactive and the amount that the lawyer can
charge is limited. It's well worth pursuing. I guess they think everyone is
trying to defraud the government or something. They can't believe people
would rather work than collect disability! Good luck!
Note also to people who are veterans -- we belatedly discovered that a
veteran can receive monthly prescriptions from the VA for only $2. With the
cost of Sinemet and Permax, this is quite a saving even if you have insurance
that pays 80%. It's a pain to go to the hospital for the examinations, etc.,
but it's really worth it. Took us too long to find out and take action.
Best to all (I LOVE this Mail group -- it's better than a support group, as
far as I'm concerned.) [log in to unmask] Naomi Meyer.
