Like, probably, most PD'ers, I can make legible block letters more easily than do handwriting. I found a little trick that improves my lettering when I am off. The trick is to write the letters in reverse. For example, most people write the block letter E by starting at the upper left corner and drawing the top line over to the right, then returning to the corner and drawing the back line downward, then turning to draw the bottom line over to the right, and finally moving the pencil to the middle of the back line and drawing the middle line to the right. The tricky way is to start at the lower right corner, draw the bottom line to the left, draw the back line upwards, then the top line to the right, and end with the middle line. There is more than one way to do it for many letters, but the key element seems to be the reversal of direction from top down to bottom up. For me it makes lettering easier for such tasks as writing checks or filling out forms. It does not help with speed. I would be curious to learn whether it works for other people.
