I am looking for a recommendation for a PD doctor in the
Kansas City area. My mother, about whom I have posted info
before, continues to have daily tremendous pain in the
stomach area--nausea, gas, etc.--despite a number of
antinausea and antiulcer drugs. She is slowly wasting
away from lack of food. Her current doctor is Kollar (sp?)--
the famous KU specialist. He doesn't seem to be around
much (and I don't blame him for that if he advances the
cause). My mother was admitted to KU for 5 days but
the main doctor didn't seem to care about her stomach
problem--he was just interested in improving her tremor
situation. Gastro doctors had diagnosed both gastritis
and a hernia, but they don't have a clue as to how PD
meds may complicate recovery. My mom is slipping through
the cracks between two specialties and one won't talk
to the other. Meanwhile, she can only lose so much weight.
Our only hope is to look for another doctor who has dealt
with the type of situation before and is willing to try
to remedy the situation.
My mother in the past has taken sinemet and eldepryl and briefly
permax. Of course all of those list nausea as a side effect.
More recently she has been taking small amounts of sinemet
and cogentin. Constipation does not appear to be the problem.
For the nausea she has taken mylanta, phasyme (sp?) for gas,
an anti-nausea drug normally taken by cancer patients (don't
know the name but it is $20 a pill), and domperidone (the latter
for just a couple of days now).
If anyone has any recommendations for KC area doctors for either
PD or gastro problems, I would appreciate it.
Thanks. Bryce Jones
