Teaching and Learning through Computer Conferencing:   October 28- November
17,1996

The NODE/REDO (Network for Ontario Distance Educators/ Le Reseau d'education
a distance de l'Ontario)  invites you  to participate in "Teaching and
Learning Through Computer Conferencing" (teaching_learning), an open
conference moderated by  Mary-Anne Andrusyszyn (RN, MScN, EdD).

Dates:
October 28-November 3: sign into the conference using the directions below.
During this week you will have the chance to introduce yourself to other
participants, indicate the nature of your interest in the conference topic,
become comfortable with the conferencing  software and interact with other
participants.

November 4-17:  moderated discussion with Mary-Anne Andrusyszyn


Who should participate:
-college and university faculty who are interested in exploring the
potential of computer conferencing in teaching, but have little or no
experience with conferencing
-college and university faculty who are interested in distance education and
in new methods for on-campus teaching and learning

What participants can expect from the conference:
-opportunities to ask questions and participate in focussed discussion with
an experienced moderator and peers about the dynamics of computer
conferencing and potential uses of computer conferencing in postsecondary
teaching
-opportunities to make contacts and interact with other faculty who share
your interest in computer conferencing
-the chance to experience a computer conferencing system within a supportive
context
-opportunities to consult several related sources of information  posted on
the web

The conference will concentrate on the dynamics of computer conferencing.
Although a web-based conferencing system will be used, these dynamics are
applicable to other conferencing software.

There is no charge for this conference.

Directions
Teaching and Learning Through Computer Conferencing (teaching_learning) will
operate from the NODE website.
***To sign on to "teaching_learning"***
*Go to the NODE home page.  The url for the NODE website is:
http://www.largnet.uwo.ca/NODE/
*Click on "Conferences" on the home page
***If you have used the NODE conferences before, click on "the NODE
Conferences Welcome Page" and proceed as directed using the userid(username)
and password you have already registered.

***If you have NOT used the NODE conferences before, click on " register a
userid (username) and password".  Here, you select a userid and password
which you use each time you access the NODE conferences.  Your userid can be
the initial letter of your first name, followed by your last name; your
first name, or some other combination you choose.  If the userid you choose
is already in use, you will be asked to choose another.
*Enter your userid (user name) and password in the form provided, using only
lower-case letters  and confirm your password as requested.
*Once you have confirmed your password, you will be asked to fill in a
personal information form.  You MUST fill in your name in the form.   The
rest is optional, but is useful to others in your conference in helping to
get to know you.  When you have finished, click on "press here when
finished".  Now you will go automatically to the NODE Conferences Welcome Page.
*Click on "teaching_learning" to join the conference.
*Use your same userid and  password each time you sign on to the NODE
Conferences.  Each  time you sign on, select "the NODE Conferences Welcome
Page" rather than registering a userid and password again

****If you forget your userid and/or password, e-mail us with your full name
and your best guess about the userid you registered.  We'll e-mail you back
with your userid and a new password. ****Please do not register a new
userid*****

interface, the conference is accessible through Lynx.
