I am attempting to find more information on beta carbolines. I had written to a Naturopathic Doctor in Arizona about possible Parkinson treatment for my friend John (72/2). She replied that the only treatments she is aware of are the "classic" nervines (reduces nerve tension/excitement, nourishes nervous system) such as the herbs valerian root, scullcap, vervain etc. She stated that in the book "Herbal Medicine" by R.F. Weiss he mentions using Atropa belladonna root (not leaf as usual) for tremor. She had also heard that it might contain BETA CARBOLINES as does, she believes, Tribulus terrestris (Goatheads) - "as these compounds are considered helpful in stopping the progression of Parkinson's". She had also heard that fava beans also contain beta carbolines. I spent five hours on the Web last night doing searches for beta carbolines to find out what they are, how they affect the body, etc. I came up empty handed except a small mention of them being alkaloids. No help there. So, I'm wondering if someone out there has more information on this or knows where to point me. (Since I have a computer, and John does not I have offered to research thoroughly any information I can find and provide him with as many details as possible for making his decisions in treatment.) John sends a great big hug to all of you, as I print out messages from this group and forward to him. He has found them all extremely helpful!!!! Thank you in advance for any help.
