There is a line from the movie Network that I've always liked. "I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take it anymore." The two parts of that quote go together. I understand better than most the figure expressed by John Cottingham but unless we can channel that anger into some productive endeavor, it will simply eat away at us and destroy us from the inside out. Too many don't have the anger and are content to be invisible. I hope John's letter ignites many of those. But, once ignited we must focus that energy. The federal government is the only game in town. They are the only resource that has the huge amount of money needed to unravel diseases. True some are mean spirited. Flannigan from Chicago and Smith from Trenton jump to mind. If we pound on the door hard enough they will listen. What we need are people to pound on the door. There are over 1,100 I believe on this list. Yet, when I just recently requested people to join a distribution for political advocacy, I've gotten responses from less than 50. I hope the Grinches fire up some of you. If we are going to beat the Grinches, we need more than the 35 people who descended upon the Capitol, or the 50 who signed up for my advocacy list. AIDS got a lot of cash from those same Grinches. They made themselves visible. We are no longer invisible, but we're more a shadow than a powerful image. Get mad as Hell, we need that emotion, but then direct it at the Grinches. hard enough they will listen
