Dear Bruce, I'll add this experience to the zillion others that are beyond my understanding. After calming down from my initial OUTRAGE, I started thinking: what if you and your daughter were to take this unasked for opportunity and capitalize on it? Turn it into a "photo-op"? (I've been watching too much c-span). Does the school have a newspaper? Is there a "health" class (this really dates me, but wasn't there something called hygiene class in the early 1700's??) Discussion and learning could be generated; correct information in the form of hand-outs could be disseminated; the local paper could be called and an article could be suggested on Parkinson's disease giving the school incident as a 'jumping point'; the role of the government in passing legislation to put aside money for research could be a topic. If there is a debating club, this could be a topic. Mock congressional hearings could be set up and have a committee present their research.....sorry, I am a like a run-away train. This line of thinking may be what we need to infuse new ideas and develop different strategy to get to our goal. How many of us have children in school (elementary through post doc); how many of us belong to groups (business, church, dramatics, sports. etc)? I think that we should develop a standard portfolio (excuse my lack of knowledge in the usage of the correct vernacular in the public relations & advertising fields) that contains up-to-date, correct and inspirational material. Use this portfolio to reach the population of the towns, cities, suburbia in which we live, similar to the way we used the Udall post cards to reach the politicians. Find out the local paper's, radio's, tv station's policy about 'public announcements'. We need to flood our world with information -- we need to step forward, identify our talents and commit to performing tasks. We need to divide the country into regions and get volunteers who can coordinate. We need to have a list of WHERE everybody lives (zip codes) and get a list of all PD support groups. We need to EDUCATE the world who the real enemy is: IGNORANCE I know we can make a difference -- let's do it to it/doit toit!!! I am ready to work!
