Ralph: I asked a PD specialist last week his opinion of the nicotine
patches. He told me that they have no benefit on "movement" symptoms of
PD (ie, tremor, bradykinesia, etc.) but that he uses the patches to help
improve slight confusion in patients with PD and Alzheimers. Not for
the hallucinations or other side effects of Sinemet, but for impaired
memory, fuzziness etc. that some experience. He (Dr. Matt Kurth) said
that it doesn't work for all patients but many do have benefit. Often
the patient did not think that it helped but the family members reported
that they notice improvement and wanted their loved ones to continue
using the patch. Carole ([log in to unmask])
