Anne, If my neurosurgeon knows what he's talking about,and if a thalamotomy is like a pallidotomy in this respect, then the answer may depend on which side of the brain is to be operated on. I'll be having a second thalamotomy soon and was told by the neurosurgeon that speech complications, if they are to occur, will happen when surgery is done on the left side of the brain (to treat the right side of the body).
