That is so exciting. When I was pregnant with my first, by husband and I
had our genes mapped to ensure that cystic fibrosis was not in our code -
Thank god it wasn't.
I've saved the amniocentesis reports on both my kids - now to find
someone who can read them. The only one I know is the X & Y stuff for
sex identification.
Every time I shake stumble or fall, I wonder - "Is this how it started
with Dad?" I'd love to know which, if any of my family might get this.
But then you get into the ethical questions. If we had indeed had the CF
hapl type, and therefore a 48% chance of children with CF - would we have
aborted? Do you check genetics on every fetus that you carry and pick
and choose? What should you be allowed to pick? Eye color? Sex?
Cystic Fibrosis? Tay sachs? Sickle Cell anemia? Left handed-ness?
PD?
Our logic was to have as much knowledge as we could to have the best
medical care available for whatever condition our child may have.

great Poem Wendy. We also had deformed cicada's in 1990 - which promptly
made me cancel the lawn service. Weeds aren't that bad - who said they
were bad in the first place? Someone in England I'll bet! Unfortunately
I have to wait until 2007 to see the next batch of cicada's!
My dad's neuro called his emotional periods pseudo bulbar episodes. He
also felt that many PWP react this way, not because of a medical problem,
but b/c they are more keenly aware of the preciousness of our lives.
Maybe PWP should not be embarrassed, but the rest of us should open up -
and feel our emotions.
