< DHEA is a steroid precursor of both androgens and estrogens
Clinical use:
<uncontrolled studies showed that HIIV-infected patients with AIDS
  had reductions in viral load while taking DHEA
Adverse effects
  androgenic::  acne, hair loss, hirsutism, deepening of the voice  in women
...                      stimulation of growth of prostate cancer...in men.
