Those of us who have been reading in this list for some time will
recognize the name of Dr. Birkmayer.

The Sunday New York Times (12/22/96) in its Obituaries column
noted the death of Dr. Walther Birkmayer, the Austrian
neurologist. He died December 10 in Vienna at the age of 86.
Dr. Birkmayer was one of a group of "researchers credited with
pioneering the use of the drug levadopa" in treating the
symptoms of PD in 1961.
"Dr. Birkmayer's professional accomplishments were clouded by his
Nazi past, particularly the revelation that he served as a second
lieutenant in the SS."
