I didnt lose your address but we were so damned mad when we were in new york,
for the full five day horrow story, that I didnt want to communicate. I am
still considering a number of options, including legal, on the basis that
failure to live up to the contract we have with Fahn puts us in a catch 22
situation where we cannot receive any other treatment -- because we dont know
what Alice got. Further, I've talked with the key person at nih and they
want this study to go the full 40 persons before lifting the blind. the key,
however, is that their position is in the form of recommendations... that
means that Columbia could decline to follow. More complications .... the
real problem is that columbia, like many other research hospitals, has been
severely crippled at the cutback of research money that occurred in the last
Congress. Thus, in my opinion, they are scared stiff to offend nih. I am
about to tell Fahn that every time they give into nih they are further
proving to nih that they dont know what they are doing in the study. We have
kept in touch with Susan Weintraub who had her surgery in either may or june
of 95 and was back for her year and a half two weeks ago. they have given her
the same runaround. every time I talk with either FAhn or Green, which has
been three times in six months, they tell me they have just answered more key
questions for nih and things hsould be straigtened out. I dont believe it. I
think we should refuse to return for the six month checkup after the year is
up until they level with us. Ill have more to say later.
