Today, I read the following in a post to the listserv:
"It is important for all of us to remember that what may seem
like a minor annoyance to others, can be extremely upsetting to a PWP.
We can only cope with so much frustration."
I thought to myself, which PWP is this person referring to; the Pope,
our Attorney General, Billy Graham? Frankly, I don't relish the idea of
having this disease. In fact, some nights I lie awake at 3 AM terrified
of watching this once-healthy 46 year old body get worse by the week.
But I REFUSE to become a "victim" of this disease, and I know that while
a disability is a simple fact of life -- being disabled is a state of
mind. We are not china eggs, we can cope with as much frustration or
pressure as we need to. One final thought ... being "off" is no excuse
for a lack of civility, dignity or simple tolerance for one's fellow man
on this listserv. God help us when we start blaming our rudeness or
impatience on a lack of dopamine!
