Enclosed is a very interesting announcement (forewarded from SEDIT-L) about N&Q available for searching on the WWW; I think this is exactly the kind of resource that needs to be made available for on-line searching and I hope many REED-ers will find it useful! At this stage the project wishes to make contact with researchers who may wish to use this material. The project is still in development but is able to make available our first title `Notes and Queries' to interested parties for use and comment. Currently the, first 10 volumes representing the years 1849 to 1854 are available and new volumes are being mounted daily. Notes and Queries styles itself as a `Medium for Inter-Communication for Literary Men, Artists, Antiquaries, Genealogists, Etc.' and is analogous to a nineteenth century e-mail list in that queries are sent in, replies are made and threads of interest develop. The content is very eclectic but central themes include literature, bibliography, history and folklore. Notes and Queries represents the beginnings of modern literary criticism. Subsequent titles to be mounted are: Notes and Queries 1849 - 1869 Gentleman's Magazine 1731 - 1831 Annual Register 1758 - 1778 Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society 1758 - 1778 Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine 1843 - 1863 The Builder 1843 - 1863 If you are interested in having full text search access to this material and are willing to provide helpful feed back, we would like to hear from you.
