Hi, After a happy holiday messing around, I can now host mailing lists here at NIP. If anyone has an idea for a list they would like to run, I (or more accurately, NIP) would be happy to consider hosting it without charge. Examples of groups/subjects that might be interested are: - Project/lobby groups such as PAN and the Udall Bill - National or regional groups who wish to discuss specific issues which wouldn't be appropriate for the mail PARKINSN list - Specific projects or initiatives We shouldn't start up lists whose content would be appropriate for the main PARKINSN list - we don't want to fragment the readership unnecessarily. But there are areas where the detail would not interest the vast majority of the list, and would be better carried elsewhere. I am using the free version of LISTSERV, the same program that is used to run the PARKINSN list. This has the following restrictions: - The list must be run on a non-profit basis - I can run a maximum of 10 on the machine (although I don't want to run more than 5 Parkinson's related lists) - They can have a maximum of 500 people on them - You can't limit the people who can subscribe by what organisation they belong to etc. In addition, I am running these lists on "spare" capacity here at NIP, so: - I wouldn't feel comfortable running very large lists (for example the size of PARKINSN) - We can't guarantee anything in terms of a service. - If the load gets too much for us to handle, you would have to find a home elsewhere. Basically its a free service and you get what you pay for...... If you do have any ideas and suggestions, please contact me at [log in to unmask] Regards, Simon --------- My opinions are my own, NIP's opinions are theirs ---------- Simon J.
