Jim:
You probably have an abduction defect, eitber caused by a divergence
insufficency or a VIth nerve paresis. In plain English, your eyes are crossed
in the distance [ it is normal for eyes to be a little crossed at near, so
reading is not a problem.
Two choices for relief: 1-- Take some plain clear scotch tape or even
better some
2-inch wide micropore surgical tape and carefully place one neat piece on the
inside of your left spectacle lens. If you have bifocals, you can leave the
little bifocal add uncovered - just cut out the tape there. Double vision
all gone?? Eventually, if the problem persists you can paint one coat f
clear nail polish on inside of left spectacle lens -- but that's not
reversible, whereas tape can be removed.
2-- You can ask your friendly neighborhood neur-ophthalmologist or
pediatric and strabismus specialist to try to""measure your esodeviation" and
to correct you with a base -in FRESNEL prism over the left eye. The prism
costs about $20-25 and is removable. Do NOT let anyone make you an expensive
pair of glasses with ground-in prism .
LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES FOR YOU.
 p.s. I not only""qualify as a neuro-ophthalmologist, " but perhaps more
significantly as a fellow PD patient!
