Norma P. and "All"

Norma pointed out something I feel is very important for ALL Parkies to
consider when taking an over-the-counter drug that someone may have referred
to you as being "Parkie-safe."

I cannot begin to count the times that our fellow list members have pointed
out anomalies in how each of responds to the various Parkinson's SPECIFIC
drugs which were created and prescribed ONLY for those with PD. It seems that
every Parkie responds in a different manner to ALL medications to the point
where for a few, even the most commonly prescribed PD-specific drugs have a
negative or at counter-beneficial effect (that may be a redundancy...).

How then can any one of us rely upon a list of over-the-counter-drugs that
OTHERS of us have had no immediate negative response to, given the above?

Another suggestion might be to list all over-the-counter drugs which we're
come across that are KNOWN to have HARMFUL effects on someone with PD. And,
if anyone of us it thinking about taking an OTC drug which might cause
potential harm to a person with Parkinson's, then ASK THIS GROUP F I R S T!

If ever there was a buncha knowledgeable and PD-savvy folks anywhere, it's
here! Surely some would respond with "I took that OTC drug for a cold and
ended up with _________ <name of PD symptoms>." You would then have a reason
to think twice prior to purchasing that drug.

Either way, there sure are a heck offa lotta over-the-counter drugs out there,
and as more and more new ones are developed, it becomes ever more difficult to
discern which may wreck havoc upon the bodies of those of us who innocently
and trustingly take them.

My father-in-law, Joe, had a cold and the dr. said Benadryl was okay because
it is also used to treat PD, well one dose and Joe was wired, he was not able
to have the control he ususally does, he talked incessantly about stuff that
made no sense to us, so we went back to the Dr. and he said Robitussion DM,
we have not tried it yet, we just let the cold work it way out......what the
problem is that everyone reacts so differently, we may never find a cold
medicine he can handle.

Good idea, good luck,
