You didn't say if you're slated for a pallidotomy, so I'm going to guess that's what you mean. (If you have time, write back and let us know if that's the wrong guess). I know of many on this list who have had pallidotomies, and I think the general consensus is that the surgery has resulted in greatly improved function. My husband had two pallidal stimulations, which are similar to pallidotomies. The procedure itself may take about 4-5 hours, although that varies somewhat by neurosurgeon as well as by patient. The patient is usually able to go home within a day or two, and recovery time is rapid - nothing like the 6 weeks or so for abdominal surgery. My husband was grocery shopping two days after his 2nd pallidal stimulation. If you have time before you leave to ask more specific questions, those who have had pallidotomies will be able to answer them and presumably set your mind at rest. Best of luck. Margie
