Dear REED-L Readers, John Metham's East Anglian romance "Amoryus and Cleopes" (1448-49) has a character, a rude, arrogant knight, who has covered his armor with armorial devices of the countries in which he has fought. This outlandish dress reminds me of the the Isabelle Kaczmarek-designed costume for Mundus in the "Castle of Perseverance" production in Toronto. Does anyone know of an iconographical or literary precedent for such a costume? Thanks in advance, Stephen Page University of Hawaii Dept. of English [log in to unmask]
