Wow, I want to thank all the nice folks who answered my house building questions: Mary Manfredi [log in to unmask] William Levinson Bob Chapman Martha Rohrer Kevin Herrick Sid Roberts Miriam Denham Please forgive any misspellings or omissions as I am trying to type fast before my tin can and string phone company disconnects me! We are fortunate in being able to consider building. We already owned a lot a little way down the street from our house. The master bath in this house is right smack in the center of the house. Major structural remodeling would have been needed. Also this house has a wooden exterior. Maintenance! Wayne's doctor said "never get on a ladder again." To do what we would need to this house would put money in we could never get out. New house will be modest three bedroom ranch. Built on raised slab. House sits back 50' from street so sidewalk will have gentle slope to two front steps with four inch risers. We will actually always enter through attached garage with no step up. All hallways 4' wide with railing on both sides. Oh, garage door tall enough for van. The walls where there will be grab bars will have extra blocking during construction. I suggested door out of bedroom but Wayne didn't like that idea (head in sand) will try again. All doors 3' wide, pocket doors, carpeted areas I think will probably be commercial grade berber--very tightly woven--low. Was told this kind of carpeting is 1/3 the cost and lasts three times as long (hahahahahaha). Exterior-brick. Computer will be downstairs instead of in room over garage as in this house. Hey, I'm getting tired of running up and down the stairs myself. Lowe's sells 19" tall toilets. I know you can never think of everything. And as soon as we win the lottery we can begin. Thanks again to everyone. Joan Cutchins [log in to unmask] YSTV64A Prodigy
