In response to Beth's query about "saccadic eye movements:" Saccades are normal rapid eye movements. They are involved in most visual tasks -- looking around, refixating on one object after another, "visual grasp," reading - and are the only voluntary eye movements. They are contrasted with slow, smooth eye movements called "pursuit."
