On the Cincinnati 11:00 PMnews tonight (Ch.9, ABC) there was a lengthy
segment about Pallidotomy. It featured a 71 yr. old atty.,Hugh Holbrock,of
Butler county, who was on the point of calling Dr. Kevorkian, when he
learned of the availability of the pal. in Cincy. Dr. Samaha and Dr.Taha(?)
of Mayfield Clinic were featured, as well as scenes of "before and after":
tremor/no tremor, and the patient in the O.R. with the head gear during the
surgery. H.Mr.H. was ecstatic "after", and there was no indication that
this was not a complete cure for him....they will consider doing the other
side in a few months, apparently. Mention was made that this is available
 "all over the country".
Last year Dr. Samaha's nurse came to our seminar in Oxford, and will speak
to our support group this spring. I believe she has been trained at Emory
in the stereotactic mapping technique, and this will be used in Cincy. The
Unov. of Cincy hospitals are a "Center of Excellence I think--at least
Samaha is a movement disorder specialist. (I've been tryingfor a year to get
Peter to go to him for a consult, BTW.)The piece aired , I'm sure, because
they've just started doing pals there. They also showed a Cincy phone # for
Parkinson info....not bad publicity, though not ideal, either, if it gave the
impression that now PD was licked! :-( Thought you'd be interested.
