In preparation for introduction, Parkinson's advocates need to act
immediately to urge Senators and Representatives to sign onto the Udall bill
as original co-sponsors--"original co-sponsors" are members who commit to the
bill at the time of introduction--particularly if they were co-sponsors in
1996. If they respond favorably in time, their names will appear on the bill
when it is officially introduced on the floor of the House or Senate. A
large number of original co-sponsors shows the legislation's popularity and
political strength.

Here's a to-do list--DON'T DELAY!
--Contact Legislators at their Washington DC office.
All Members of Congress can be reached toll-free through the Capitol
switchboard at 800-962-3524.

--Ask to speak with the person who handles health care or medical research
issues. If they are unavailable, leave a message and ask to be called back.
Leave your name, telephone number, and tell them you are calling to urge the
Senator or Representative to co-sponsor and support passage of the Udall
Parkinson's research bill.

--When speaking with staff, advise them that the Udall bill is nearing
introduction. Urge them to immediately co-sponsor the bill. If they are
unable to give you an immediate response, ask them to get back to you as soon
as possible with a yes or no answer.

--Once a Member agrees to co-sponsor, thank them, and make sure to find out
if they have already signed on, or when they plan to. Please contact PAN at
(800) 850-4726 with this information, or with any question you may have.
