Regarding causes, and whether PD runs in the family, the Parkinson Disease Newsletter of Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, NY, Winter '96-97 states that, Dr. Russell Swerdlow of the University of Virginia, and his associates have noted a genetic defect in a component of the DNA of people with Parkinson's. Referring to a possible environmental connection, he noted that "this may explain why some individuals develop Parkinson's Disease following toxin exposure, while others do not." Only research will provide the answers!
