Arla,

I can understand your frustration and perhaps misunderstanding of the
posts here. I don't think anyone thinks that an opportunity for
recognition on the Oprah or any show is a lark. I don't know how you
cope with stress, but many of our listserv members have delightful sense
of humors and enjoy a lot of joking banter back and forth. Some object,
most of us enjoy the interaction and recognize it as a coping mechanism
they use. They are witty and funny, but that does not mean they do not
take all this seriously. I think we all know the seriousness of the
opportunity.

I think you also misinterpreted Stan Houston's plan. Obviously the most
articulate members can represent PD best, but he did not suggest not
telling the truth of the disease and all its problems and sad stories
also. I know that my dad is at this point an extremely sad life, but
that is my opinion, not that of my mom. My dad is mentally so far gone
he cannot voice an opinion. Better the vocally able speak out.

We all do understand your pain at least somewhat, but bear with those of
us who voice it or deal with it differently. Numerous researchers have
proven good results with laughter and positive thinking. We all need
that.

I think several have expressed well the consensus here about Ivan and
gay PWPs. We accept his preference and respect his views. However
focusing on that would detract from the purpose of the show. Still we
do want Ivan to feel accepted here and suppported in his efforts to cope
with PD. Fortunately he has someone who cares since his family does not
accept his lifestyle. It is sad they cannot.

Arla, my thoughts and prayers are with you, but please accept each of us
and how we deal with PD and how we cope with uncertainty in life
generally.

We all owe Stan our support in his efforts to get some recognition. As
I have said before he will reach thousands of people never even
diagnosed and many looking for answers.

Aloha, Gail
