TENURE TRACK POSITION IN READING/LANGUAGE ARTS

Applications are invited for a tenure track position at the
Assistant Professor rank, subject to final budgetary approval, in
the TEACHING OF READING/ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS, effective 01 August
1997.  Candidates should have successful teaching experience at the
K-12 level and a completed Ph.D. by the start date of the
appointment.  Some experience in Middle Years education (grades
5-8) and/or expertise in an additional cognate area  (e.g., social
studies, drama, E.S.L.) would be assets.

Responsibilities include: (1) teaching undergraduate and
graduate courses in reading/language arts with particular reference
to the teaching of literacy;  (2) working collaboratively as a
member of a program team; (3) carrying out an active research
program; (4) supervising student teachers; (5) advising graduate
student research; (6) participating in the Faculty's service
activities; and (7) serving as an active liaison between the
Faculty and other university departments, practising professionals,
school divisions and agencies such as the provincial department of
education.  Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience
(1997/98 salary range $40,868 to $53,300).
