Bryce,
PEG is an acronym for a type of tube feeding. You may have seen people
who had a tube going through the nose and down the throat; this is
uncomfortable. A much more comfortable and convenient system is the PEG.
A small incision is made in the abdominal wall and a kind of "button" is
inserted. The patient or caregiver can attach the feeding tube to the
"button" at will. The patient can stand, sit and walk around normally,
and can still eat normally by mouth as well. So both kinds of feeding
are available. This often helps with extreme weight loss when the
patient just can't eat enough to maintain normal weight.

Many people are initially frightened of the PEG. But usually they find
it is truly a lifesaver as well as very helpful and convenient.

I hope this explanation helps a bit.
Best regards,
Kathrynne
