According to my local paper today, NJ Rep. Robert Menendez was named a House minority chief deputy whip, replacing former Rep. Bill Richardson, who is now UN Ambassador. Along with three other Democratic Party deputy whips, he will be responsible for helping get key Democratic votes lined up. (Menendez co-sponsored the Udall bill last year and has written me that he intends to do so again this year.) Phil Tompkins
