I had posted the inquiry below a few days ago and have gotten lots of wonderful responses. I thank you all. My mother is just beginning to take seriously the relationship between her medication and everything else (food, stress, sleep, etc.). When I spoke to her this evening, she was feeling better. Her first night taking Permax deprived her of sleep. She decided to take half the dose for now. Her doctor has her taking 16 .25 mg tablets eventually along with the 25/100 Sinemet 4x/day -- does this sound excessive to anyone?? Her balance is her major symptom (although the inability to use her left hand is difficult, too). However, she mentioned tonight that it seemed to her as though her balance has gotten a lot worse (more severe when it occurs) than it had been before she was diagnosed (about 2 months ago) and started on Sinemet. On the other hand, she notices when the Sinemet wears off (after about 3 hours) and the balance reappears. This almost sounds contradictory to me: on the one hand, it seems worse to her than it was 2 months ago; on the other hand, she definitely now notices when the Sinemet wears off (suggesting that it's doing some good). I suggested the possibility of (after talking to her doctor) experimenting with the drugs and, perhaps, going off everything to see if things are worse with the drugs (which I suspect is not the case). Problem is, she's just introducing Permax into the equation now and would have to reintroduce it at the slow rate she is now. The one good thing about this disease is that (at least in an early stage) experimenting with drugs seems possible without causing great harm in any way (I suppose even this is not the case in all instances).
