I have been asked to post this by MIke Claeys- Parkinson Action Network ------------------------------------------------------ March 28, 1997 FRIDAY ACTION UPDATE SEND LETTERS TO UDALL SPONSORS All Parkinson's activists should immediately send letters to the Udall Parkinson's Research Act's Senate and House introducing sponsors: Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Fred Upton (R-MI). Letters should thank the Udall champions for reintroducing the bill this year, and they should also contain a brief personal statement on why the bill is important to you. Explain why you have worked so hard these last years, and why you're prepared to work even harder this year to ensure that the Udall bill becomes law. The purpose is to give the sponsors an opportunity to tangibly demonstrate the Parkinson's community's strong support for the Udall bill at the press conference and in the Congressional Record. For these reasons, all letters must be received by Senator McCain and Congressman Upton no later than Tuesday, April 8th. Don't delay! Show your support for the Udall bill by sending your letters to: Senator John McCain United States Senate Washington, DC 20510 Congressman Fred Upton U.S. House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 These updates are intended to inform and inspire Parkinson's activists, and you are encouraged to publish, reproduce and distribute them to any and all interested persons. UDALL BILL UPDATE Congress' Spring District Work Period continues, with most Members in their home states and districts. Members continue to sign on as original cosponsors during this break, so all advocates are encouraged to contact their legislators right away and urge immediate support of the Udall bill. COSPONSOR COUNT: SENATE: 24 HOUSE: 28 Below is the initial list of original House cosponsors, provided by Congressman Waxman's office. Typically on bipartisan bills like the Udall bill, Democrats will contact the lead Democrat when cosponsoring; which explains the vast majority of Democrats listed here. A more complete list is being compiled by Congressman Upton's office and will be made available as soon as possible. When you see any of your local legislators listed here, please contact them to say, "Thanks for supporting the Udall bill!"
