This posting is an update concerning two aspects of that production. 1. We are planning to embed the production of the plays in a symposium called "The York Cycle in its Context". The first day, Friday 19 June, will consist of four sessions of invited papers exploring several aspects of the production situation of the York Cycle in York during the life of the cycle. Panelists will be asked to explore the use of the wagons, the street-scape and the effect of these elements on the language and prosody of the original text. On Friday evening we are planning a public lecture to involve the less academic audience in the issues posed by the cycle. On Sunday 21 June we will have two roundtable discussions exploring the production situation of the York Cycle in Toronto in 1998. One of these sessions will focus on the discussion from the point of view of those who produced, directed, and acted in the cycle the day before, and the second session will invite perspectives from audience members. 2. As you know, theatre groups and individuals from around the world have been invited to bring plays to Toronto for the production. We have been very successful at placing plays, but there remain 12 plays still available. If you're interested in bringing a play to Toronto from this list, please let us (me) know right away. We'll also be happy to answer any questions. The list of available plays, with cast size and line length is: 4 Eden (3/99) 26 Conspiracy (9/294) 28 Gethsemane (16/305) 29 Annas & Caiaphas (10/395) 31 Christ before Herod (9/424) 32 Remorse of Judas (8/389) 33 Judgement (11/485) 36 Death of Christ (14/416) 38 Resurrection (13/454) 41 Doubting Thomas (5/199) 42 Ascension (7/276) 43 Pentecost (9/224) Prof. David Klausner/Centre for Medieval Studies/University of Toronto [log in to unmask] phone: 416-978-6752 fax: 416-971-1398
