Hello Patricia and welcome to the list! I have only been on the list for
about 3 months but I find it a real source of comfort.

I too am a YOPD. I'm 43 and had first symptoms of cramping toes on left foot
11 years ago followed by slight tremor and rigidity on left side. Was
diagnosed 8 years ago. Have on/off problems now and again but don't do too
bad generally.

The worst symptom I have had to deal with has been the depression. Looking
back I was having short bouts of depression before any other symptoms
appeared but I didn't not realise what it was at the time. Just prior to my
diagnosis in 1987 I had severe depression and was put on Amitriptyline and
Lithium and that combined with the PD medication (Sinemet) eventually pulled
me out of a very serious situation. I still have to take anti-depressants
(Clomipramine) which I regulate myself and generally the depression is kept
at bay.

I would rather have any other PD symptom than depression so I empathise with
you and say just hang on in there - I'm sure some other medication must be
able to help you.

I find it so hard to get information which confirmed to me that it was the PD
giving me the depression and when I did find out it was such a relief even
though the hard bit was that I couldn't control it.

If I can help any more please let me know. You can either e-mail me by the
list or direct - [log in to unmask]

By the way I am in the UK so I don't know if the anti-depressants I mention
are available in the US.

Best wishes
