I've mentioned before that I've been taking pramipexole for three years
with generally favorable results, though my off/on problems are still
pretty persistent and eating anything interferes with my sinemet (and
therefore the pramipexole, which is a helper drug.) Reseachers at WashU
are studying tolcapone at the same time, and feel it is a more effective
drug.

Tolcapone is due to be approved by the end of the year and should be on
the market shortly after pramipexole. I'd like to take them both, but
their interaction hasn't been determined yet. Given a choice, I'll probably
opt for the tolcapone. I've been told I'll have to take a few days to
acclimate to the new drug, since it requires a drastic adjustment of
sinemet.

Either way, we have two promising new drugs that should help those of us
who've reached the point where sinemet is less effective than it used to be.
