Debbie - In a message dated 97-04-26 05:55:28 EDT, you write: > She has no tremor at all >except occasionally in that hand, but when it's in use. I know that the PD >tremor is a resting one. Are there others with hardly any tremor but when >they have it it's when it's in use?? Thanks. You're right about the PD tremor being described as a "resting tremor." What you describe sounds more like essential tremor than Parkinson's. Having lived with Dick's PD for 15 years, and having worked for 5 years for a boss with essential tremor, I have some experience with both. In the case of my boss, the harder he tried to control a pen, a cup of coffee, or whatever, the more it shook. I've never seen that in PD. My understanding is that if the PD meds work, then it's probably Parkinson's, and if they don't, you should seek another diagnosis. Some of our helpful MDs on the list will probably respond more informatively than I can. I would just say that it's a good idea to have your mother evaluated by a movement disorder specialist, as opposed to a GP or general neurologist. Some people with PD have spent years getting an accurate diagnosis - and conversely, I imagine some people with other illnesses that include tremor are incorrectly diagnosed as having PD. Good luck.
